One of the reasons people say they "don't have time to pray" is that they're imagining a 45-minute quiet time on a cushion. That version of prayer is beautiful and, for most of us, extremely rare. The version that actually gets practiced is smaller and stranger — it fits in the seams.

Here are five moments already in your day where five minutes of prayer belongs.

1. Before your feet hit the floor

The two minutes between waking up and picking up your phone are some of the most protected time you'll have all day. Stay flat, take a breath, name one thing you're grateful for and one thing you're worried about. That's it. If you want more, tap in and pray with someone. If not, get up.

2. The commute you're not driving

Train, bus, walk, passenger seat — anywhere your hands are free but your attention is drifting. Instead of doomscrolling for the seventh time this morning, use one commute a week for a short prayer session. It'll feel weirdly good.

3. The gap between meetings

The five minutes between a hard call and the next one is the exact size of a prayer break. It also happens to be the exact size of the emotional residue you're about to bring into the next meeting whether you want to or not. Take it.

4. The pickup line, the waiting room, the queue

The world is full of enforced waits that we resent. Most of them are about five minutes. Reframing them from "waste" to "pause" is one of the cheapest quality-of-life upgrades available.

5. The last thing before sleep

Not doomscrolling. Not one more email. A short prayer — of gratitude, of release, of one honest sentence about the day — is one of the most reliably good things you can do for tomorrow's mood.

Notice what's on this list: none of it is new time. All of it is time you already have, just aimed differently. That's the whole trick.
